
Icing Instructions
Caution: If you have injured yourself or are currently in pain consult a doctor
these instructions are intended for patient who are currently under care for their pain by our doctor's
WHEN ICING:

Always use ice instead of heat with new injuries | |
|
Ice is most effective in the first few days of inflammation | |
|
never apply ice to an area of your body for more than 20 minutes | |
|
Allow 2 hours between icing (this allows your body to return to its core temperature before you ice it again) | |
|
Sharp pains are iced / stiffness and tightness can be heated but not more than 15 minutes at a time and with moist heat. | |
|
(Caution: be careful not to apply very hot items to your body this may cause a burn) |
Instructions:

Apply ice pack or frozen gel pack to your area of pain | |
|
place a thin towel or paper towel between your skin and the ice pack | |
|
let ice rest on your area of pain or swelling for 20 minutes then remove it. | |
|
after 2 to 3 hours you may re - apply ice | |
|
You may ice an area up to 3 times per day (as long as you allow 2 - 3 hrs between icings) | |
|
On smaller body parts such as hands wrists ankles only ice 15 minutes at a time |
